The project
The Wellex GOLD project was born out of a partnership between Geowellex and Repsol Sinopec Brazil, a giant in the oil and gas industry. The tool enables geologists to analyze gas data and make necessary decisions during drilling. However, the entire process was previously done through spreadsheets, lacking the necessary efficiency and being a manual process.
Challenges
Many issues with spreadsheet tools
High operational costs
Delays in the analysis and decision-making process
Difficulty in scaling the process for various operations
Provide an analysis tool that is easy, effective, and efficient for users
Support Repsol in staying ahead of the competition in the oil and gas industry
Reduce operational costs and bring more efficiency and accuracy through a real-time and scalable system.

Finalist project in the 2023 Innovation and Technology award by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels (ANP)
Project widely validated in various wells around the world, reducing operational costs and bringing scalability
Analysis process now conducted in real-time, with agility and speed in decision-making
In-depth understanding of the problems and users
By understanding the complexities of the project with Repsol, we were able to identify which problems to tackle and how to translate the entire process from spreadsheets to web screens. The focus was on making analysis journeys simpler and more objective.


How can we scale the current analysis process beyond its current state?
Exploring the tool's functionality, and as small deliverables were completed, the design was modular, allowing users to perform multiple analyses simultaneously with agility and precision through a single action.
The main problems raised by Repsol were addressed, and we were able to add new types of analysis, expanding the initial project concept.
My learning in the process was to work on the research side, understanding the users' environment. Additionally, staying in constant alignment with stakeholders and balancing design decisions with business decisions was crucial.
